2024-2025 FIRST® LEGO® League Explore Alabama Festival Recap

This past Saturday, May 17, the excitement was contagious as teams from across the state gathered in celebration of creativity, curiosity, and collaboration at the FIRST® LEGO® League Explore Alabama Festival, hosted at Hampton Cove Middle School in Owens Cross Roads!

This vibrant event showcased the innovative work of six incredible teams of young engineers and problem-solvers—students ages 6 to 10—who have spent the season diving deep into STEM during this year’s SUBMERGEDSM season.

Guided by the theme of exploring the mysteries and wonders beneath the surface of our oceans, lakes, and waterways, each team proudly presented their Model Builds and Show Me Posters. These projects reflected weeks of learning, creativity, and teamwork, offering imaginative takes on underwater exploration, marine technology, and aquatic ecosystems.

The festival was full of energy, smiles, and moments of discovery. From interactive displays to high-fives from our enthusiastic reviewers and volunteers, every team was celebrated not just for what they built, but for how they worked together to build it. It was a powerful reminder of how foundational skills like communication, cooperation, and creative thinking begin at an early age—and how FIRST® programs nurture those traits every step of the way.

We’re incredibly proud of each student who participated, and we’re deeply grateful to the mentors, coaches, volunteers, and families who made the day possible. Your support fuels the mission of FIRST and helps build a brighter future for STEM in Alabama.

A special thank-you goes out to our event partners and sponsors whose support makes these experiences possible and accessible for young learners across the state.

We'd also like a huge round of applause for our award winners! Congratulations to:
